Maxine Steinman has presented her choreography at festivals and theaters across the United States, including Joyce SoHo, the 92nd Street Y Harkness Dance Festival, WestFest Dance Festival, American Dance Guild Festival, Battery Dance Festival, Liberty Hall Dance Festival, Outlet Dance Festival, and Lila Dance Festival, among others. She has choreographed and performed in Taiwan, Brazil, Mexico, Spain, Japan, Italy, France, Germany, Lebanon, and Cyprus. New York Times critics Jack Anderson and Jennifer Dunning have described her work as “ingenious” and “a jewel.” Steinman has received grants from the O’Donnell-Green Foundation for Music and Dance, Dance New Jersey, and the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, and has served as an Artist-in-Residence at The Church in Mount Vision, NY, and at Casa Uno in Costa Rica. She created works for and taught at Montclair State University, Hofstra University, Marymount Manhattan College, The Ailey School, Centro Andaluz de Danza, Institut del Teatre, Alma College, and the University of Colima, among others. A former soloist with the Eleo Pomare Dance Company for twelve years, Steinman also performed with the José Limón Dance Company through its LINKs program and most recently as a guest in the company’s 80th Anniversary intergenerational performance of Chaconne, along with other New York dance companies. She holds a BFA in Dance (Adelphi University), an MA in Dance Education (Teachers College, Columbia University), and an MFA in Dance/Performance (University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee). Steinman is currently Associate Professor and Program Coordinator of the BFA Dance Division at Montclair State University.
